Peake. “This provision allows the application of that honor in all events involving our nation’s flag.”

The new provision improves upon a little known change in federal law last year that authorized veterans to render the military-style hand salute during the raising, lowering or passing of the flag, but it did not address salutes during the national anthem. Last year’s provision also applied to members of the armed forces while not in uniform.

Traditionally, members of the nation’s veterans service organizations have rendered the hand-salute during the national anthem and at events involving the national flag while wearing their organization’s official head-gear. The most recent change, authorizing hand-salutes during the national anthem by veterans and out-of-uniform military personnel, was sponsored by Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, an Army veteran. It was included in the Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on Oct. 14.

The earlier provision authorizing hand-salutes for veterans and out-of-uniform military personnel during the raising, lowering or passing of the flag, was contained in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008, which took effect Jan. 28, 2008.
# # #
For the latest news releases and other information, visit VA on the Internet at
http://www.va.gov/opa.
To receive e-mail copies of news releases, subscribe to VA’s list server at:
http://www.va.gov/opa/pressrel/opalist_listserv.cfm.PLAV Post 31http://www.blogger.com/profile/12360148749155798166noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-843214732850497281.post-4656309358662967932008-10-13T15:31:00.000-07:002008-10-13T15:37:02.334-07:00Post and Chapter 31 2008 Calendar of EventsOctober 15 - Poor Man's Dinner and raffle
October 19 - Annual Chapter Bingo 2 pm
October 30 - Chapter Bingo

November 9 - Veterans Day Mass at Wade Park

December 6 - Veteran and Woman of the Year dinner

December 14 - Coffee Hour at Wade Park
December 21 - Post Christmas party

Any questions, call Pat 440 - 585 - 3230

Post and Chapter meetings
December 6 -PLAV Post 31http://www.blogger.com/profile/12360148749155798166noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-843214732850497281.post-34108271882394105062008-10-13T15:27:00.000-07:002009-02-18T03:32:49.081-08:002008 Post and Chapter OfficersCmdr Bill Halloran
50 Lloyd Road
Euclid, Ohio 44132
216 289 5208 H
216 406 0077 C

First Vice Ken Bubonics
30009 Vineyard Rd
Willowick, Ohio 44095

Second Vice Joe Dolenc
21730 Tracy Ave
Euclid, Ohio 44123
216 731 8079H
216 308 1701 C

Treasurer & Adjutant Pat Bubonics
30009 Vineyard Rd
Willowick, Ohio 44095

Sgt at Arms Stanley Krysiak
311 East 273
Euclid, Ohio 44132

Parliamentarian Richard Smith
24351 Stephen Ave
Euclid, Ohio 44123

Trustees:

John Popik
1758 Pontiac Drive
Euclid, Ohio44117

Lou Stromsky
36 Surrey Lane
Cleveland, Ohio 44110

Alan Carter
4546 East Berwald
South Euclid, Ohio 44124

Service officer Wally Zink
46 Lincon Drive
Cleveland, Ohio 44110

Chaplain Joseph Evans
430 East 245
Euclid, Ohio 44123

CHAPTER OFFICERS

President Barbara Ritchey
983 Windermere Drive
Willoughby, Ohio 44094
barbara.ritchey@yahoo.com

Vice President Linda Busch
915 East 214
Euclid, Ohio 44119

Treasurer Betty Bednarski
736 East 222
Euclid, Ohio 44123

Recording Secretary Elaine Zielinski
137 East 220
Euclid, Ohio 44123

Financial Secretary Theresa Krysiak
18008 Maplecliff Rd
Cleveland, Ohio 44119

Sgt at Arms Rose Marie Oblak
411 Halle Drive
Euclid, Ohio 44132PLAV Post 31http://www.blogger.com/profile/12360148749155798166noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-843214732850497281.post-91851995495015691942008-09-20T20:06:00.000-07:002008-09-20T20:13:46.393-07:00PLAV Post #31 Website850 E. 200th St.
Cleveland,Ohio 44119
216 486 3979

2008 VETERAN AND WOMAN OF THE YEAR

The Department of Ohio is holding their Veterans' and Woman of the Year Banquet on December 6, 2008.
